Springhouse Mediaworks

Springhouse Mediaworks is Ryan’s independent creative and technical practice for businesses, venues, events, and community projects. Website creation is its primary growth focus, supported by design, event planning, equipment consulting, and live sound.

My part: Planning and building websites; creating design and campaign materials; helping plan events and live productions; assessing equipment needs and developing scopes and budgets; coordinating purchasing and installation; and providing live sound, documentation, and training when a project requires it.

Snowshoe Mountain

As Senior CRM & Email Specialist, Ryan connects guests with the information they need before, during, and after a visit.

My part: Designing, coding, testing, and sending email campaigns; building audience segments and automated messages; managing the email calendar and app notifications; and using performance reports to improve communications.

A primary project in Ryan’s life for 20+ years, connecting songwriting and performance with the practical work of keeping a band on the road.

04A/V consulting

Warner’s Drive-In: A Stage for Live Music

Completed Springhouse engagement · March 2025–September 2026

A completed A/V consulting engagement through Springhouse Mediaworks for a new stage and live-music series, covering stage sound, lighting, and the snack bar’s audio system.

My part: Assessing needs, writing the scope of work, building equipment budgets, coordinating purchases with vendors, and installing and configuring systems. Training operators and writing setup and troubleshooting guides were part of the work, too.

Follow-up consulting focused on evaluating the systems in use and planning upgrades around the venue’s needs and budget.

The consulting role and responsibilities are supported by the February 2025 consulting agreement and scope of work, the approved March 2025 sound-and-lighting proposal, the January 2026 Phase 2 A/V proposal, and the Stage & Sound Operations Manual. Ryan confirmed his work on needs assessment, budgets, scope, vendor purchasing, and installations. The Phase 2 proposal records the initial system installation and operator training and defines subsequent assessment and upgrade planning.

Pocahontas County Opera House

A community arts venue in Marlinton, West Virginia, and a setting for much of Ryan’s work beyond the stage.

My part: Running live sound, producing live video streams and radio broadcasts, and supporting events. The role also includes grant writing, marketing, communications, graphic design, and music education.

Story Sessions

Developed during the pandemic, this Opera House podcast and video series pairs conversations with West Virginia musicians with recordings of their performances.

My part: Executive producer, host, and recording engineer: developing the series, interviewing musicians, and recording performances with collaborators including Kurt Schachner. Emily Chen-Newton also produced the podcast adaptation.

07Music education

From Rehearsal to the Stage

Teaching rock bands at PopShop and introducing high school students to live sound—two ways Ryan connects learning with a real performance.

Rock bands at PopShop

At PopShop in Morgantown, West Virginia (2016–2019), Ryan taught student rock bands. Students chose songs together, rehearsed as a group, and prepared sets for public concerts.

Live sound with Pocahontas County High School

Ryan taught a two-day introduction to audio and live sound for a Pocahontas County High School class during Dom Flemons’s October 2023 visit to the Opera House. Students then put those lessons to work, helping run sound for a Flemons performance.
